Marketing Manager, AxonVR
I used to think fully immersive virtual reality was science fiction. I was wrong. Now it’s my job.
I joined AxonVR in January as the company’s first marketing hire. I had never heard of AxonVR. That was part of their plan.
Since 2013, AxonVR has been in "stealth mode," developing technology to make full-body, fully immersive virtual reality possible. The team has spent the last three years designing the HaptX platform, filing the necessary patents, and building prototypes. Now that they've completed a wicked cool demo unit, AxonVR is ready to share their story with the world.
Enter me: that marketing hire.
Our story. Our perspectives.
We’ll use this blog to give you a behind the scenes look at how we build the future of VR: our technology, our philosophy, our culture.
It’s an exhilarating ride. The AxonVR team tackles complex problems, facing unexpected obstacles every step of the way. Our engineers adopted a mantra, borrowed from Matt Damon in the Martian: “I’m gonna have to science the shit out of this.”
We can’t achieve this vision alone. We’re part of a community of makers. We depend on the content creators, HMD developers, and VR evangelists who drive our industry forward.
We’ll use this blog to spotlight the people in our industry who are doing innovative work. We’ll offer our perspective on VR developments, and draw attention to what’s important.
Meet the team
Our Founder and CEO, Jake Rubin, is a hands-on leader with an intimate knowledge of our technology and the VR industry. One minute, he’s figuring out multiplexing valve arrays in HaptX. The next, he’s immersed in a virtual environment, tweaking lighting effects in Unreal Engine. Jake envisioned fully immersive VR years ago. Now he's leading our team to build HaptX technology.
Our co-founder, Dr. Bob Crockett, is a master at communicating complex technical information in an engaging way. He honed this skill as a professor at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, where he’s the Director of General Engineering. With 20 years of systems engineering experience, Bob’s an expert in advanced materials manufacturing.
Our President, Mark Kroese, is the steady hand that manages the AxonVR business, and is setting us up for scale. Mark brings twenty years of experience from Microsoft, where he helped build Office and Xbox into multibillion-dollar businesses. He studied with the brightest minds in the world as an Advanced Leadership Fellow at Harvard. An avid mountaineer, Mark also wrote a book on the best climbs in North America.
Then there’s me: Andrew Mitrak, Marketing Manager. I’m surrounded by a team of people who are conceptualizing and creating our virtual future. Lucky me— I get to help tell their story.
Think of me as Ringo. I’ll keep the beat, and may sing a song from time to time. But for the most part, I’ll be in the background supporting the voices you really want to hear.
Be a part of our journey
This blog is a conversation. We’re only a part of the equation. We’re building technology that will change the future of virtual reality. It’s an ambitious undertaking, and we want you to join us on this journey.
